Tier Selection Guide:
When selecting what setup will work best for your use case, there are a few things to take into mind:
- Player Slots/Usage
- Mods
- Server Configuration(Server FPS, tickrate, ect)
- Restart Duration(Applicable for games known to have issues with memory leaks)
This guide will help you decide what setup will best suit your needs on a per game basis.
Arma 3:
With this game being over 10 years old, it's not the most optimized so things like mods can over stress the server. Remember, while these recommendations theoretically should work the game engine itself has limitation that cannot be solved by allocating more resources.
Tiers 1-3: Good for small to medium size servers with minimum mod usage(Quality of life, some light weapon mods)
Tiers 4-8(Recommended): Great for most use cases, can handle max slot allocation with moderate mod use(Depending on the mods utilized).
Tiers 9-14(Overkill): These options are designed for those who know they will need the extra overhead for their server but can be excessive in most situations.
Arma Reforger:
With reforger being the middle ground between Arma 3 and Arma 4, it is a great testing ground but has its limitations and can become broken with updates. This guide and the tiers have been formulated to try and account for those issues.
Tiers 1-3: Best for low population servers with little to no mods, Tier 3 is typically the starting point for most communities wanting to run with very light quality of life mods but may still suffer from lag at times.
Tiers 4, 5: 24-48 slot servers with some modded vehicles and weapons. May suffer from lag under a heavy load(AI, explosions, ect).
Tiers 6-10(Recommended): These options have been tested to handle 80+ slot servers with moderate to heavy mod use(vehicles, weapons, clothing). Generally speaking these options should handle nearly any setup.
Tiers 11-14(Overkill): Should only be used if you plan to run max population with very heavy mod use. Typically not needed.
DayZ PC:
Like Arma 3, this game is somewhat limited by the game engine so issues such as lag may happen depending on how the server is setup.
Vintage Story:
With this being the newest addition to the selection, we have done moderate testing and decided these tiers are suitable for the various use cases but performance is not guaranteed because of the highly variable performance based on mods. It is recommended to request a demo server for testing or test locally to decide what tier is best for you.
Tiers 1-4: Best used for base game or some light mods with a small group of people.
Tiers 5-8(Recommended): Typically covers most setups, tested with moderate mod usage and a decent number of people.
Tiers 9-14: Reserved for those running large servers with moderate mod use. Not recommended for small groups unless you are using a large number of mods.
Project Zomboid:
The resource requirements can vastly differ depending on game version, mods, play count, zombie count and spawn rates along with vehicle usage. It is recommended to start small and increase your resources(Request a demo to test if needed).
Tiers 1-3: Generally covers you for small groups with very light or no mod usage running at base game settings. May lag with larger zombie hoards or wild fires.
Tiers 4-6: Tested to work with moderate mod usage with base game and increased zombie presence. Typically the range clients stick with unless running higher population servers with a significant number of mods.
Tiers 7-14: These tiers may be applicable for certain setups, it's recommended to start with a lower tier option before over spending. You may request a temporary upgrade for testing(Only offered once before upgrading for a 24-48 hour period).
Minecraft:
With the extent that this game can be modified and performance can be changed so much by a single mod it can be difficult to make set a standard guide, it is highly recommended you contact support before purchasing for assistance and possibly a demo. Upon request we may be able to pin point exactly what resources you need for a given mod/modpack. We will only test trusted mods found via sources such as curseforge.
